No one believed that they were real, let alone alive. But they were, more than anyone else knew. There was a time, when magic stirred in all living things...it sparked inside them just waiting to be set free.

Everything around us was made of magic, not a thing in the world was made out of anything else. The Mages were the people who were able to unlock these powers- it enabled them to use the magic freely. It surged through their veins, and as a result, they became known as the Mages. They were a powerful race, and were once very vast. The Mages were seen and looked up to by everyone around them. Mages were kind people and practiced their magic freely, only using their powers for good.

One could say that their aura was bright and beautiful. Not one thing was bad about them- they were seen as pure and angelic beings who had taken the form of humanoids.A few years after the discovery of Mages, strange markings appeared on their bodies.

They would form on the upper arms or the forehead. These markings were unlike any other, their patterns almost floral in their design, and so intricately formed- that their style was unique. These markings would glow when their magic channelled through them to be used as Open Magic.Open Magic was when the Mages could cast the powers out of their body.

It was how they used magic, openly and freely. That was how it was called by the Mages and the village people. Open Magic.Everyone was happy around the Mages, and the Mages were welcomed into the world. They were a peaceful bunch of people and they created their own city which floated high in the sky.

Only the Mages could access it, and only a Mage could cast themselves into the Citadel. Humans had often wondered what the Citadel looked like, but only those who changed into Mages could see it. Legend had it, that the Citadel was full of jewels and had gates made of pure gold. That the windows were beautifully decorated and magic was capable of roaming free. There were some questions asked as to why humans were unable to change into Mages. It was said that humans, although were made of magic, lacked the knowledge on how to unlock it.

That although they were pure, their minds werent able to grasp the extent of the knowledge required to become Mages. You see, Mages used one hundred percent of their brains, whilst humans used only a partial amount of their brains. Without the rest of that brain, they were unable to make the necessary leap into becoming Mages. But that changed one day.

When a man discovered how to unlock his magic within him. No one knows how he managed to discover the power required to do so, only that he used so much power it was beyond the Mages themselves. He attacked the Mages and said they were an abomination, and that they were selfish beings who never helped anyone else but themselves.

He began to kill them- it ignited the war between the two. But while the two factions fought to rule, the man who named himself the Dark One began to convert others to coming onto his side. He unlocked their magic and forced them to become his. In the end they were converted completely to his side and couldnt be swayed as long as the Dark One lived. So the war waged on and it obliterated the humans from existence, wiping them out completely.

But only a few humans lived, and they moved off into mountain sides and places where they would be less affected by the magic. They lived on and more of them grew, but they never left the safety of their homes, because those who did never returned. No one knows where the Mages are...but they swore to reawaken one persons magic and destroy the Dark One...and to this day that promise has yet to be fulfilled...
